Stress, which has become a daily part of modern life, may cause issues with healthy body metabolism. When under stress, the body responds by increasing cortisol levels, which may cause body tissues, including muscle and fat, to be less sensitive to insulin. Blood sugar may rise in response to the release of stress hormones leading to insulin resistance and glucose metabolism dysfunction. Many botanicals influence the effects of stress on the body, having stress-protecting activity which helps to minimize the adverse effects of stress on metabolic processes. The herbal combination of botanicals for modulating glucose metabolism, along with adaptogen acting botanicals, can have a direct supportive role in healthy glucose metabolism.
Botanicals discussed include ashwagandha, bitter melon, ginger, holy basil, rhodiola, and more.
